Comprehensive Chiropractic Care in Tucson with Dr. Alan Cross
I first moved to Tucson in 1969. I graduated from Amphitheater High School before attending Northern Arizona University. My wife, Kim, and I raised our three children in Tucson. Kim is an LPN working in the Tucson area. We are the proud parents of two sons, who are with a local law enforcement agency, as well as one daughter, who is serving our country in the U.S. Army. I graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1994, and have been practicing in Tucson since 1995.
Palmer Method and Atlas Orthogonal Techniques in Tucson
I use the Palmer method of adjusting, and am also one of a limited number of chiropractors trained in the Atlas Orthogonal technique. I first saw Atlas Orthogonal used on my wife while I was attending chiropractic school. She was suffering with daily migraines, as well as high blood pressure. This was while on medications to stop the symptoms. After getting adjusted with the "A.O." method, she was able to stop the medications and now rarely gets migraines. Atlas Orthogonal is very beneficial for patients with upper neck complaints who have not had success with other chiropractic methods. It has also been beneficial to patients with headaches, and has been featured on the CBS show "The Doctors", as well as on "The Montel Williams Show". My office has been featured on two local television stations health beat segments, as well as in the The Arizona Daily Star newspaper.
Functional Medicine for Chronic Conditions
I also use functional medicine to treat patients with chronic conditions. We use Science Based Nutrition to evaluate a patient's health. This involves acquiring blood testing and urine testing through a local lab. We also obtain hair analysis. These results are combined, and the results show over 200 tests in a computerized report. This report shows foods that should be consumed or avoided, as well as supplementation that would be beneficial to the body, all individualized to that patient's body.
Chiropractic Care That Fits Life in Tucson
Living in Tucson comes with its own set of day-to-day stressors that can show up as neck pain, headaches, low back tension, and lingering stiffness. From long drives on I-10 to stop-and-go traffic on Speedway Blvd, Broadway Blvd, and Oracle Rd, it’s common for people to notice their posture and mobility taking a hit—especially if you’re commuting, spending long hours at a desk, or regularly lifting and carrying at work.
Tucson’s outdoor lifestyle is another big factor. Whether you’re hiking around Sabino Canyon, spending weekends up on Mt. Lemmon, walking The Loop, or working in the heat, it’s easy to aggravate the upper neck and low back. Add in seasonal allergies and dry air that can affect sleep quality and recovery, and many locals find they’re dealing with recurring tension that doesn’t fully resolve on its own.
For drivers and passengers hurt in collisions, getting the right documentation and follow-through can feel overwhelming. In Tucson, reports and next steps often involve resources like the Tucson Police Department (for incident reporting), the City of Tucson and Pima County public services, and Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) road-safety information. People are frequently surprised that even a “minor” crash can lead to delayed symptoms—such as headaches, shoulder tightness, dizziness, or difficulty concentrating—days after the impact.
Our approach is built around what Tucson patients commonly need: careful chiropractic adjustments, a clear plan for soft-tissue recovery support when appropriate, and guidance on when to seek additional evaluation. For those looking at a more whole-body view for chronic concerns, functional medicine-style testing through a local lab can help identify patterns that may be contributing to fatigue, inflammation, or slow recovery, so you have more actionable information to work with over time.
Comprehensive Care for Auto Injuries in Tucson
I have also received the Advanced Certification of Competency in Whiplash and Brain Injury Traumatology from the Spine Research Institute of San Diego. I believe that all injuries suffered in auto collisions must be addressed with a multi-faceted approach. This includes chiropractic care, first and foremost, along with massage therapy for the soft tissue injury, as well as referrals to other professionals as needed.
